John P. Murillo was raised in Valencia, California. Having experienced his parents’ divorce, he developed a strong appreciation for the importance of thoughtful guidance and clear communication in navigating family challenges—a perspective that continues to inform his work and dedication to clients today.
John earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with an emphasis in Comparative Politics, from the University of California, San Diego, graduating magna cum laude and with high honors. During his time at UCSD, he actively participated in Model United Nations, honing his skills in debate, negotiation, and advocacy. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he further developed his litigation skills through mock trial competitions and internships with both a boutique civil litigation firm and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Following his time at UCLA, John practiced in Los Angeles before relocating to Orange County in 2020, where he now devotes his practice exclusively to family law. Since moving to Orange County, John has pursued advanced trial training and graduated from all four programs offered by the National Family Law Trial Institute, where he trained alongside some of the country’s foremost family law litigators. He also completed the Orange County Bar Association’s College of Trial Advocacy, refining his courtroom skills with prominent members of the local legal community.
John focuses his practice on guiding clients through complex and emotionally charged family law matters with preparation, strategy, and advocacy. He values clear communication and practical solutions and understands that family law cases are rarely just legal disputes, but deeply personal matters that affect families, finances, and futures. John strives to ensure that his clients feel informed, supported, and confident in the decisions they make throughout the process.
In addition to his practice, John is actively involved in the local and legal community. He is a member of the California Lawyers Association Family Law Section, the Orange County Bar Association Family Law Section, the Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County, Project Youth OC, and the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Outside of the office, John is committed to family. As a parent of a newborn daughter, he brings a personal understanding of family dynamics to his work. He also enjoys traveling, reading, and trying new restaurants in Orange County.
